The Hot Air President

President Obama gives good speeches. He talks a good game. He verbalizes thoughts of hope and change. He told us that he’d be a new kind of President, and change Washington. He has delivered on that promise–he is indeed a new kind of President. He’s the Hot Air President.

To be fair, though, let’s look at President Obama’s accomplishments as they stand now.

Accomplishment # 1: Health Care

He’s saddled the nation with a brand new healthcare “entitlement”–affectionately known as Obamacare. Even the Democrats who supported this bureaucratic monstrosity don’t have a clue as to how it can work. They’ve already exempted themselves and their staffs from its clutches. And the IRS, which is supposed to ensure compliance, has exempted itself as well.

Accomplishment # 2: The National Debt

He’s given us an astronomical national debt that is sinking us into a bottomless hole where all big spenders eventually go. We could join Greece, Spain, Portugal and other nations that forgot about Economics 101. For our current debt, I refer you to the U.S. National Debt Clock in real time. It speaks for itself.

Accomplishment # 3: The Economy

It’s true: President Obama inherited a mess. The economy was in free fall. Like it or not, he and his administration had to take drastic action. Unfortunately, they took the wrong path, following the Keynesian prescription of massive government spending. It doesn’t work.

Accomplishment # 4: Foreign Policy

When President Barack Obama was elected, the world rejoiced. The promise of America was being fulfilled. We were now under the tutelage of another Lincoln. (I can only imagine what a colleague of Abraham Lincoln might have said to Barack Obama: “President Obama, I knew Abraham Lincoln. He was a friend of mine. Barack Obama, you’re no Abraham Lincoln.)

Perhaps it was Obama’s experience as a community organizer in Chicago that convinced him that he could show the world the right way to organize its affairs. The world loved Obama when he came to deliver his grand speeches that sounded almost Kennedy-like. But then, something happened: President Obama came back to the White House.

Slowly but steadily the world understood that Obama was full of hot air. President Bush was an Eagle Scout compared to President Obama. Obama continued and enhanced drone strikes. He confused our allies and emboldened our enemies. Hot air, drone strikes, and a community organizer at the helm of American power have done the trick.

Accomplishment # 5: Jobs

What jobs? Obama’s leftist philosophy simply can’t fathom where jobs come from. He can’t understand why companies are holding back on hiring. He can’t see that Obamacare scares the hell out of them. He can’t understand that the highest corporate tax rate in the free world just doesn’t help to create jobs.

Accomplishment # 6: The Surveillance State

During President Obama’s two terms in office, he’s been asleep at the wheel…or maybe not.  He has allowed the surveillance apparatus of the United State Government to go into high gear, allegedly to prevent terrorist attacks. Prevention is a good thing, except when it crosses the line into “Big Brother is watching” your every move.

Such power in the hands of government bureaucrats and contractors is dangerous. Why?  As with all power: “Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it.”–William Pitt.  It appears as if President Barack Obama’s mind has been corrupted.

I could go on with Obama’s accomplishment, but I’ll let you fill in the rest. For now, let me leave you with this sobering thought: Hot air and unlimited power are a volatile and dangerous mix. Fortunately for us, the Hot Air President’s second term in office is almost over. We can only hope for real change next time. And, remember: Yes we can!
