Robbins opens ERISA, estate planning law practice

Robbins opens ERISA, estate planning law practice

MADISON, Miss. — Attorney Courtney L. Robbins has opened her own law practice, Robbins Legal, PLLC, filling a unique niche in the legal field by offering two somewhat uncommon areas of legal
focus — ERISA and estate planning.

Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach to her law practice, Courtney seeks to offer practical advice and solutions for a select variety of complex legal issues. The Employee Retirement Security Act, or ERISA, includes Retirement Plans, Executive Compensation Plans, and Health and Welfare Plans. Her second area of focus involves wealth and asset protection and preservation through long-term estate planning strategies.

Before opening her own practice, Courtney worked as an ERISA expert in the trust and wealth management department of one of the largest banks in the south, assisting other attorneys in charting the best course of action for retirement plans during corporate mergers and acquisitions. It was there that she became passionate about ERISA law and estate planning, as well as the effects of the constantly changing Internal Revenue Code.

Through her law practice, she counsels employee benefit plans, their sponsors, plan administrators, fiduciaries, and institutional service providers on fiduciary, trust, and ERISA compliance, partnering with CPAs, investment advisors, third party administrators, and trust departments to solve these multi-faceted issues.

Courtney also works with individuals and families to shield personal and business assets from burdensome tax implications due to long term care, elder care, injury or death. With a keen eye toward protecting assets under the rule of law, she partners with wealth management professionals to tailor each plan to fit the client’s needs.

Courtney’s ERISA knowledge also extends to the oversight of health and welfare plans including governmental benefit plans. She is well-versed on issues related to the Affordable Care Act and has guided individuals, businesses and insurers through the many facets of the 2010 healthcare law.

While this law is complex, Courtney is able to simplify and translate the requirements, helping clients ensure compliance.
